Social Runnering update
Keep up with the latest news from our social running group who meet up every Thurday evening at 6:20pm at the clubhouse.

Epping District Athletics Club's social running group came to life at the beginning of 2013 with options of running 5km or 10km every Thursday evening from 6:20pm.  We started with a bang with close to 25 new runners joining us and since then we have settled into a regular number of 10-15 runners.  During Daylight Savings Time we had lots a light with the 10km group running along the dirt trails and 4WD tracks around Epping and Pennant Hills while our 5km group ran around the streets of North Epping.  Since Daylight Savings has finished both groups have taken to the streets of North Epping and surrounding suburbs with bright clothes and headlights in hand. Our running courses are updated around once a month to keep it original and we try to cater for all our runner goals, whether it is to run a marathon or half-marathon, the City-2-Surf, or just improve their fitness.

Epping DAC have all recently registered a team for the City-2-Surf in August and we hope to have a contingent of runners competing on the day. Many of our members also compete regularly as part of the West Met Cross Country Series which is on every Saturday afternoon in Winter at a variety of venues.  Distances include 2km, 4km and 8km with only a $2 fee for the day.  It is a great way to meet other runners and work on your race fitness.

In 2 weeks one of our team leaders, Matt, will be competing in his 2nd half-marathon as part of the SMH half-marathon on the 19th of May.  He has been running regularly with our 10km group and his hoping to finish in under 100 minutes.  Good luck Matt! Congratulations also go to another of our runners, Mel, who competed in the Canberra Marathon on the 13th of April.  I will update on her time asap.

In sadder news, another of our leader, Yansish, will be leaving us in a month to return home to the UK where he will begin studying Medicine.  He has been a valuable leader in our 10km group and will be missed.  Best wishes for your medical studies back home.

We hope to see new social runners joining our club as City-2-Surf training heats up.  Our social running group is all about reaching your goals, staying fit and meeting other keen runners in the area.

Yours in running,

James Palethorpe at the Novice X-Country Champs
James had a blistering run at the States Novice X-County Champs, completing the muddy, 10km course in 36:46, finishing 7th in his age group in less than ideal conditions.

The Novice championships - open to any runner who hasn't won a medel at State level open Champosnhips - was run on perhaps the wettest day of the year, and the normally quick course was bogged down in mud and standing water. James sub 37 run would have been quick on the fastest or road course - and is below the qualifiying time for a seeded start at the City2Surf. That James managed this time on a muddy wet field is a great achievment.
